HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction

Golden Jubilee edition goes ‘Back to the Future’

The International HISWA Symposiu an event of this type. This scientific get-together is organised to shine a light on the latest developments in the field of yachting and yacht design every year. Om on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction has reached its Golden Jubilee year, a unique milestone forrganised in cooperation with RAI Amsterdam, the jubilee edition will take place on 12 and 13 November in parallel with the METSTRADE Show, the world’s largest and most visited B2B leisure marine equipment show which runs from 13 to 15 November in the RAI Amsterdam convention centre.

“We have been organising this symposium since 1968,” explains Hans Hopman, professor in marine engineering at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). “A unique collaboration between HISWA, TU Delft and RAI Amsterdam, it is the ideal forum in which to share the latest scientific findings with the international market and research institutes.”

The symposium is one of the ways in which the Netherlands maintains its status as a major centre for knowledge development in the global yachtbuilding sector. “This is why we are very happy to welcome students to the event,” adds professor Hopman. “They are the workforce of the future and will play a major role in helping us to retain and hopefully expand our international position.”

This year’s symposium, the theme of which is ‘Back to the Future’, will be opened by naval architect Gerard Dijkstra and the former associate professor at TU Delft Dr Lex Keuning. They will reflect on past innovations while also considering new ones in the fields of yacht design and construction.

The symposium is open to businesses, students and research institutes.
