New format HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction at METSTRADE 2020

Science and practice meet

The renowned international HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction offers a new designed programme around the theme ‘Dare to Share’. The programme of this 26th edition is a mix of scientific presentations and applied knowledge sharing on yacht design and yacht construction focused on everyday practice.  HISWA-RECRON, the Dutch association of boating and leisure companies is the driving force behind this new approach. The HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction will take place on 16 and 17 November in parallel with the METSTRADE Show, the world’s largest B2B leisure marine equipment show which runs from 17 to 19 November 2020 in the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre.

Michaël Steenhoff, manager yacht building HISWA-RECRON: “The well balanced mixed programme of scientific research presentations and practical applied topics of this symposium appeal to a wide marine industry audience. We have noticed that it is important to apply science for everyday yacht building practice.

Science is the basis to develop knowledge, but businesses are also very interested in how to apply this in their daily work. Moreover it’s important to share and transfer the knowledge transparently to the marine industry. Therefore the theme of this year’s symposium is Dare to Share.”

The HISWA Symposium programme will include topics which are of interest for: yacht architects, construction supervisors, yacht brokers, boat yards, but certainly also for marine technology students.

Hydrofoil boats, new construction methods, the engine room of the future and the road to zero emission are some of the topics addressed. The programme offers plenty of opportunity for discussion with peers, to ask questions and interact with speakers. The complete symposium programme will be available in July on www.hiswasymposium.com.

COVID- 19 precautions and measures
Steenhoff: “The organisation of the Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction is confident that the symposium will take place in November in conjunction with the METSTRADE Show, but is of course closely following developments related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)."

Niels Klarenbeek, director METSTRADE: “The Dutch authorities have announced on June 23rd  that large events are allowed again in The Netherlands, as long as a 1.5 metre distance is kept between people at all times. RAI Amsterdam has its  ‘Safe, responsible and hospitable’ protocol in place that set rules and guidelines for exhibitions, conferences, shows and meetings held in the RAI complex. We look forward to welcoming the HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction again as an important element of the METSTRADE content programme.

In addition the symposium organisers also consider virtual opportunities to meet and interact with marine professionals all over the world.

The HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction is organised by HISWA-RECRON, Delft University of Technology, MARIN and RAI Amsterdam, organiser of the METSTRADE Show in November 2020 and is made possible by Feadship, Oceanco, Royal Huisman Shipyard en MARIN.
